Great old old man running A/V at Julia’s grandfather’s funeral. At the end of the evening he started turning out all the lights in the place, and my brother said, “Oh, they’re closing the chapel,” but this old guy said, “You can stay as long as you want, I’m just turning off all of the lights.”
Good one, old man.
Was talking to @maxfenton the other night about wedding dates, and he mentioned he’d been thinking about their hex values, and how they’d all be dark hues. I was intrigued by this, and thought I’d share the hex color for me and Julia’s wedding day.
My beautiful wife.
I’ve been meaning to post these photos Ian Coyle sent me a while ago. He was kind enough to allow me to post them here before he publishes himself.
Seeing these makes me miss shooting with film. Such beauty in the way film captures color and surfaces. Even when the frame is mostly out of focus it looks good.
Thanks for the photos, Ian. Visit again soon.
Title slide for my artist talk coming up this Thursday at Beard Arts Center at Indiana Wesleyan University. I’ll be speaking around 4pm.
My wife and I each have shows up from May 4-30. If you are nearby, please come check out our work.
Julia Parris (by Able Parris)
OK, I’m getting the hang of my new camera, and I upgraded my Flickr account again so I have a place to put all the new photos. Consider this an invitation to follow along on Flickr so I can keep this blog mostly words.
Our first two person interview is with the dynamic, multi-talented, and super energetic duo of Able and Julia Parris—or, as they call themselves, Team Parris! We couldn’t agree more; they really do make a great team. We had the privilege of hearing about their individual creative paths, how chance or fate intervened in bringing them together, what started their love affair with New York, the lessons they’ve learned from challenges along the way, and the legacies they each hope to leave. Thanks, Able and Julia, for inspiring us with your individual stories and your story together. Cheers to many more years of making and collaborating!
Honored to share a bit of our story. A big thanks to Ryan and Tina who put great care into these interviews, and for the invitation to be a part of the project.
As it turns out, last Sunday was my birthday, and it was quite pleasant. We had friends in town, and my wife put together an evening of drinks and appetizers at our favorite nearby cocktail garden. She also gave me the gift of small (yet tall) dolls made in our likeness. I can’t say I’ve ever considered having a doll made of myself, but they’re actually quite charming.
If you’d like to have some dolls made, be sure to contact Bearded Fellas.
In the meantime, if you need me I’ll be sitting under our AC window unit playing with my dolls…
Today marks ten years being married to my lovely wife, Julia. It’s been a most unusual ten years, and for that I am grateful.

I took this photo* about 10 years ago outside of the Woods Gerry building. We had just moved to Providence, Rhode Island a few months after getting married. It was definitely the most trying and fulfilling move we could have made. She finished her photography degree at RISD, and I continued a roundabout journey into the design field of which I had just discovered.
Below are some thoughts (in no particular order) on relationships and life in general:
*The above photo was taken with a twin-lens medium format Rollop camera. As you might have guessed, I have very long arms. And I still wear that shirt.
